Chuck and Nettie Hawkins have more than 30 years’ experience working with high school bands!
Chuck comes from a family of music educators and began his career serving as a member of the Commandant’s Own the United States Marine Drum and Bugle Corps. After leaving the Corps he joined the fire department and rose to the rank of Battalion Fire Chief for Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department in Virginia. In addition to being a career fire fighter, Chuck spent 20 years as the Marching Band Director, under Richard Bergman, at Herndon High School in Virginia. Additionally, he has been a clinician with many high school bands around the United States as well as on staff with Magic of Orlando Drum and Bugle Corps.
Nettie’s first career was managing a real estate law firm in McLean, Virginia. As their family grew they moved to the country, Nettie began a new career as the Selections Coordinator for a custom home builder. Before and after the move Nettie enjoyed fifteen years as the Visual Caption Head and Colorguard Instructor at Herndon High School. She has also been an instructor, clinician and visual tech at various high schools in Northern Virginia.
They have worked for and with Dixie Band Classic and Fiesta-Val of Music, high school marching band and symphonic band competitions and community parades; gaining them a great deal of experience and knowledge on the inner workings of these events and how to keep things rolling along smoothly for the directors, parent volunteers and especially for the performers. Chuck and Nettie have the unique perspective of having been band “kids” themselves, band directors/instructors, band parents and drum corps parents.
Retirement in Central Florida has been a wonderful experience allowing them to visit the local attractions as well as RV camping and travel around the country. Both of them are excited to work with All National Music and assist new generations of musicians to create memories that will last a lifetime.
